A Silly Party Game

I was chatting with my sensei this evening, and he told me about a party game he learned. I'm sure this is as old as the hills, but it was new to me, and I found it more than a little eye opening. So, I thought I'd share it with you.

First of all, grab a piece of paper (or whatever new fangled gadget passes for paper these days). Write on it:

  1. Your favourite domestic pet
  2. Your favourite wild animal
  3. Your favourite dessert

And for each, the specific attributes about it that make it your favourite — ie, what appeals so strongly about each.

Go ahead, I'll wait. Won't take you more than a couple of minutes.

Finished? Ok, good. Well, here's what I answered:

Fave pet: a cat — reasons? It's inquisitive, sassy & elegant

Fave wild animal: the shark — reasons? It has an efficiency > 1 (until recently thought impossible), it's fast, incredibly beautiful & a little scary

Fave dessert: durian — reasons? the sheer perversity of it, it's exotic, and orgasmic(ally tasty)

So what does this all mean? Well, there's a reason I left the explanation till the end — so you could write your answers down (yes yes, I know you're reading ahead. Stop being cheeky, & jot them down).

An interesting side note. Almost 20 years ago, I did one of those journeying experiences, where you find your power animal. I'm not totally sure about the practical usefulness of this information, but I'm curious about everything, so I gave it a shot anyway. For me, it turned out to be a hedgehog. I kinda realised, over time, that that was a good representation of myself. Prickly as hell on the outside, squishy on the inside. Also interestingly, my favourite dessert has changed radically over the last couple of years, since I started aggressively on this healing path.

So, side note aside, here's the interpretation, I know you've been dying for it:

  • The pet is what you look for in a partner
  • The wild animal describes your own attributes
  • The dessert is how you like sex

.. and I looked at my list, and I thought to myself "You know? That's a little bit bloody scarily accurate". I'd guess this also means my power animal has changed (although the implications of this are beyond me).

    hmmm…my answers were:

    1. monkey — i love how human they seem, and their playful agile personalities. very interactive. i never had one as a pet, but they seem like they'd be so much fun! and they're adorable.
    2. wolf — fierce, powerful, noble. they generally mate for life, and are take care of their pups.
    3. cherimoyas — very durian-like, without all the funk. sometimes they smell a little fecal when they're not ripe yet but they are sweet, creamy, and i like how the flesh splits from the seeds (errr…talk about sexual overtones, lol)

almost all my exes referred to me as very cat-like or feline. i have a single blonde hair that grows on my cheek. my first boyfriend called me "whiskers". LOL.

I actually had this done on me at Burning man by a friend.

Except it was your favourite colour (you), power animal (partner), water (sex).

    Hmmmm.

    bloody old Burning Man eh?

I'm skeptical about the power animal being your partner. Ok, SO not an expert here, but my understanding of them is that they are an inner reflection of yourself — your higher/inner self. Which would pretty much make them more likely to be yourself than another.

Thinking about conversations I've had with other people, their power animal was always a super good description of them, not who they were looking for.

but then, that's burning man all over — always interesting, always entertaining, but you can never be 100% sure that what's happening is actually true, or just someone (including yourself) messing with you :)

Pretty interesting that you're described as feline, yet a wolf is from the dog family. What do you make of that?

I had to wiki cherimoyas — never heard of them. Turns out that over here they call them custard apples. Wow, I love those! SO tasty. Still prefer durian for the weirdness factor, in terms of desserts, but oh boy, they're definitely a goodie, I agree.

  • Jennifer

hmm…well my initial thought was a lion or a panther or something feline, but then when i thought about which animals i really admire, the wolf came to my mind, followed by the owl. both have played significant roles in my life…

"women who run with the wolves" is an excellent, excellent book.

i've seen an Owl Spirit — granted I was smoking salvia with my girlfriend in her cabin on former Native American soil, but still…

so durian still, over custard apples, eh? weirdness…hmm…tell us more about your sexual kinks! ;-)

  • Jennifer

p.s. my initial domestic animal was "cat". :)

    *huge laugh*

well, I wouldn't describe myself as kinky so much as exploratory (uhh) — always keen to try something new, interesting, mind bending etc. buuuut, not going to get into more detail than that in a public forum *grin*

    1. Your favourite domestic pet.

    A Bull Terrier.
He is fiercly loyal, has intinct to match his incredible charm & is a clean beast. No wild unkempt beasts in my bed! (lol.. ahhh)

    2. Your favourite wild animal.

    This is a Donkey Divine.
Donkeys are powerful physically & brilliant smart. They make noise when it pleases them & they protect better than any ol' farm dog ever did. Oh, & that business about being Stubborn.. ha! You don't know the half of it!

    3. Your favourite dessert.

    A Yummy Fresh Fruit Smoothie.
It's creamy divine & The Real Thing, Baby!
So delicious & irresistable.. I just can't get enough.
As Coldplay put it.. "Give me real, don't give me fake." ;)

    How funny! All true. *lol*

exactly my response when he first asked me the questions.

It definitely left me scratching my head going "Huh? What just happened?" :)
